Language learning and technology: teaching in the 21st Century
Can pedagogy keep up with the speed of technological change? This plenary talk will take a ‘snap-shot’ of teaching in the 21st Century. It will look at innovation; critically analyse key learning technologies; explore some controversies and conclude with some practical teaching ideas for use in the language classroom.

Making a success of blended learning
The term ‘blended learning’ continues to be a ‘buzz’ term in language teaching. This session will firstly summarise the key principles of blended learning; then, explore ways of creating a successful blended learning course, using learning platforms; and finally, provide examples of successful blended courses.
Workshop 1
Title: 40 practical ideas for using digital technologies in ELT
While new technology has changed the teaching and learning of languages forever, using ICT remains a controversial area. This highly practical session will be an interactive presentation consisting of 40 practical ideas for teaching grammar and vocabulary, the four language skills, phonology and using games.
Workshop 2
Title: Apps in language learning
Language students today may well own a smartphone or a tablet pc. This session will explore ‘m-learning’ – mobile learning; focus on the different types of mobile devices; present some key distinctions in the area of apps and finally, it will look at some exciting new apps for language learning.
